This course provides comprehensive training for individuals seeking to become chaplains, focusing on spiritual caregiving, crisis intervention, and ethical decision-making. Students will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to support individuals during times of crisis, provide emotional and spiritual guidance, and serve as a source of comfort and strength in various settings such as hospitals, prisons, military bases, educational institutions, law enforcement agencies, and communities, to name a few.

Requirements
  • 1. Attendance and Participation: Students are expected to attend all classes if applicable, and actively participate in discussions and activities. Though this is an online Course, those expecting to be taken into consideration for official accreditation and ordination with the Chaplain on Board Initiative will be expected to attend in-person seminars, conferences, training sessions and practical community hours. Such accreditation and ordination will be done on merit by the Accreditation Board of the Chaplain on Board Initiative.
  • 2. Readings and Assignments: Students will be required to read assigned texts and complete written assignments on topics related to chaplaincy training.
  • 3. Case Studies: Students will analyze case studies of chaplaincy scenarios and participate in group discussions to apply course concepts to real-world situations.
  • 4. Field Experience: Students will complete a minimum number of hours of supervised field experience in a chaplaincy setting to practice their skills and receive feedback.
  • 5. Final Project: Students may be required to complete a final project that demonstrates their understanding of course concepts and their ability to apply them in a practical context.
  • 6. Exams: Students will take written exams to assess their understanding of course material and their ability to apply it in a professional setting.
  • 7. Please Note: All students who successfully complete this training course will be awarded with a certificate of completion.
  • 8. Students who wish to be considered for accreditation as volunteer Chaplains under the covering of the Chaplain on Board Initiative (Cobi), will have to apply in writing.
  • 9. Only born-again, Spirit-filled, Bible believing students displaying a Christlike lifestyle, will be considered.
  • 10. A background and criminal check are compulsory to be accredited as Cobi Chaplain.
  • 11. Accreditation interviews will be conducted, and all successful candidates will be granted a probation period at the discretion of the Board. A yearly accreditation fee is payable..
  • 12. Accredited Chaplains will be officially ordained and represent Cobi as volunteer Chaplain.
  • 13. For those wishing to be considered for official accreditation and ordination with the Chaplain on Board Initiative, a final phase will be introduced. For those in South Africa, additional conference, seminar and training sessions will be arranged as well as practical community hours. It will also be expected to submit character witness letters of recommendation, and undergo a vetting process to establish the absence of criminal records.
